Resident population by age, sex and marital status on January 1st
It is a process that, starting from Population Census data, calculates the municipal resident population by sex, year of birth and marital status as of December 31 of each year and is released as of January 1st of the following year. Resident population consists of the people having habitual residence in the national territory even if temporarily absent, both Italian and foreign citizenship.

Resident population: consists of the people habitually resident in a municipality, even if on the date considered they are absent because temporarily present in another Italian municipality or abroad. Also includes persons temporarily residing in another municipality or abroad, for the exercise of seasonal occupations or for reasons of limited duration.
Sex: biological characteristics that contribute to define a person as male or female, as recorded in the registry office.
Marital status: the status of every citizen respect to the laws on marriage and civil unions in force at the time of the survey in the country. Single or unmarried citizen is defined as the male or female, respectively, who has never entered into a marriage or civil union; married are citizen who has not obtained a dissolution or termination of the civil effects of marriage; divorced is defined as a married citizen who has obtained a dissolution or termination of the civil effects of marriage; widowed is defined as a citizen whose marriage has terminated due to the death of the spouse .
